Back to School, After 25 Years - Pravin Kamble Blog

Back to School, After 25 Years

Posted on June 15, 2025June 15, 2025

It all started with a random message in our quiet school WhatsApp group. You know the type—mostly birthday wishes and festival forwards, rarely any real conversation. One of my old classmates dropped a simple thought:
“Why not plan a school reunion?”

That idea hit like a wave. And suddenly, everyone was riding it.

I started doing my bit—digging into contacts, calling a few friends, forwarding messages, even trying my luck on social media. A few of us were already in touch, but most had drifted over the last 25 years. Still, it was amazing how quickly the momentum built. Eventually, a new WhatsApp group came alive—this time buzzing with excitement and purpose.

Planning Chaos and Pure Energy

Soon, all kinds of questions were flying around:

  • “How do we plan this?”
  • “Where should we meet?”
  • “Will our teachers join?”
  • “Can we go back to school for this?”

Some friends took the lead, and I joined in where I could. With everyone spread across cities—and lives—it wasn’t easy to meet in person. So, group calls and chat threads became our war rooms. Within two weeks, we had everything in place:

  • Food? Sorted.
  • Venue? The school itself.
  • Teachers? Contacted and invited.
  • Even details like dress code, welcome kits, photographers, and games were checked off.

Some batchmates couldn’t actively contribute due to family or work commitments—but their support and enthusiasm were always there. That shared energy made all the difference.

The Day Arrives

And just like that, it was reunion day.

As I entered the school gate, I had butterflies in my stomach. It had been 25 years, but the sight of that familiar entrance made time blur instantly. For a second, I was just a schoolkid again.

We entered just like we used to—lined up, waited for the bell, then walked in for the prayer. That feeling… hard to describe. Goosebumps. Smiles. Nostalgia in the air.

Walking down the corridors, past the classrooms, glancing toward the staff room—I felt a strange mix of emotions. I was surrounded by people I hadn’t seen in decades, but it felt like no time had passed.

Teachers, Stories & Laughter

Seeing our teachers—those who taught us in primary and secondary—was like stepping into a living memory. They looked almost the same. And when they called out names or asked what we were doing now, I couldn’t stop smiling.

The event began with a welcome song and a small pooja. Teachers and school board members were honored. Speeches followed—some emotional, others hilariously relatable.

I shared a few memories too—some silly, some awkward. But hearing everyone open up was the best part. We laughed about strict teachers, sneaky pranks, and our shared fear of parent-teacher meetings. Few classmate talked about how the school helped them through a tough phase. Another remembered a teacher’s single comment that boosted their confidence for years.

These stories weren’t just funny or nostalgic—they were powerful.

Photos, Fun & Food

Of course, we clicked way too many photos—solo, group, teachers, selfies, candid reels. One fun moment was when we did a little skit where each person entered the classroom and passed a flower to the next one—just to get everyone in the video. We even lined up boy-girl-boy-girl for one sequence. The final edit? Absolutely hilarious.

Some of us recorded reels—funny, heartfelt, or just plain random—because let’s be honest, we all secretly hoped one would go viral.

As I walked through the updated school building, I was amazed at the changes—new computer labs, a smart library, science labs, new classrooms. I tried to find the exact bench where I used to sit. I couldn’t. Things had changed. But the feelings? Still intact.

At one point, under the neem tree, someone casually said,
“What can we do for the school now?”

That idea stuck with me. It wasn’t fully formed, but everyone nodded. The spark was there, and it felt real.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

After lunch, after speeches, after reels and group hugs—it was time to leave.

Standing near the gate again, I felt something shift. I had arrived that morning thinking it was just a fun event. But I was leaving with so much more.

I walked in as a working professional.
I walked out as a student again.

What This Reunion Taught Me

Every reunion leaves behind memories. But this one left me with perspective too.

Here’s what I took away:

  • My school wasn’t just a place. It built the foundation for who I am today—values, character, confidence.
  • Teachers never stop being teachers. Even after 25 years, their presence and words still guided me.
  • Old friends don’t fade away. The bond may have paused, but it picked up right where we left it.
  • Time moves fast. But emotions don’t age. We laughed at our old fears and shared stories we once kept quiet.
  • Giving back feels natural. Seeing how much the school had evolved made me want to contribute—to give something in return.

In a world of fast replies and instant likes, this slow, heartfelt experience reminded me of something far deeper—the joy of real connections.

This wasn’t just a reunion.
It was a reminder of where I came from.
And maybe, just maybe, where I’m headed next.
